Rachel Derr DNP, MSN, RNC-LRN, CNE is the Director of Prelicensure Programs and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers University-Camden School of Nursing. She obtained her BSN from Widener University, MSN in nursing education and administration and her DNP specializing in nursing education from Duquesne University. She is a Certified Nurse Educator and is additionally certified in Low-risk Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing, Online Teaching, Lifelong Learning in Inclusive and Equitable Teaching, Implementation of Inclusive and Equitable Teaching, and Effective College Instruction. She is an Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) Effective Teaching Practices Facilitator and has earned ACUE microcredentials in Designing Learner-Centered and Equitable Courses and Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment. Rachel is also the author of the Blog Changing Course: Innovative Ideas for Nurse Educators.
Rachel's nursing specialties include maternal-child and critical care nursing with both neonates and adults, and she has practiced clinically in both Philadelphia and South Jersey. Her academic experience spans over 17 years. Presently, she teaches in the accelerated and traditional undergraduate programs at Rutgers University-Camden School of Nursing; however, she started teaching nursing as an adjunct instructor at La Salle University in 2005, and progressed to full-time faculty at Holy Family University in 2007. Her scholarly areas of expertise include diversity, equity, and inclusion, curriculum, assessment, testing and outcomes and innovative teaching strategies. She has presented her work with nursing education at several national and international nursing conferences.
Rachel lives in the small town of Cinnaminson, New Jersey with her husband, Chris, three children, Daniel, Abby, and Tommy, and two rescue dogs, Scout and Piper. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, the beauty of nature, Harry Potter, Anime, and the medieval and renaissance time periods. Rachel looks forward to sharing her time and talent with the Rutgers University community.
