Zackary Chance Medlin

Howdy!

My name is Chance Medlin, and I use the pronouns he/his/him. I am a student at Rutgers University working on my Master of Information degree. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (Elementary Education) from Texas A&M University in 2007.

After graduating from Texas A&M, I spent a year as a first grade teacher. For my mental health, I quickly decided teaching first grade was no longer the career for me. I made my way back to campus and started working for the University Libraries. I celebrated my eight year 'Aggieversary' with the Texas A&M University Libraries on September 18th. I worked at a combined service point ( circulation and reference) at the main library for about seven years. Recently, I transitioned into my current role as the Program Assistant for Learning and Outreach after finding what seems to be my sweet spot in librarianship. I love working with and helping students, staff, and faculty understand how Libraries can help them. I enjoy coordinating and planning outreach campaigns and events. I have been a part of the team that created our successful TAMU Libraries' 'happy' campaign. This included helping to make our happy video which is shown to incoming students. We invite them to our Open House where we give out free shirts, free food, and let them play carnival games to learn about the Libraries and what we can do for them. This year we had around 4,000 student come through the Libraries in less than 3 hours. I hope to become an outreach librarian or a subject liaison for education.

My areas of professional interest are outreach and instruction, active learning, user experience, and educational technology. My personal interests include spending time with family which includes an adorable dog, Zoey, and two very active nephews. I am the advisor to the Aggie Book Club student organization. I also enjoy going on ridiculously long walks.

If you have any questions about me, feel free to ask. I am an open book!

Smile and be happy,

Chance Medlin
