Coach Nick Byrd
Head Boys High School Coach
Coach Byrd has served as the Head Boys’ Wrestling Coach for more than a decade, leading the Indians with passion and consistency. Under his leadership, the team has achieved one top-4 state finish and six top-10 finishes, along with multiple regional championships. He has coached four state champions and countless state placers, building a tradition of excellence within the program. Beyond competition, Coach Byrd is deeply invested in the success of the entire Scappoose Wrestling program, helping to develop athletes at every level.
Coach Jim Jones
Head Girls High School coach
Coach Jones brings over 30 years of coaching experience to Scappoose Wrestling. A former Scappoose High School boys’ coach, Vice Principal, Athletic Director, and Principal, he has a long history of leadership both on the mat and in the school community. Throughout his career, he has coached a state championship team, guided countless athletes to state placements, developed multiple state champions, and worked with high school All-Americans. His dedication and experience continue to inspire the next generation of Scappoose wrestlers. Coach Jones is the Oregon coach of the year for 2025!
Coach Justin King
Head MS/Youth Coach
Coach King serves as the Head Middle School Coach and Head Mat Club Coach for Scappoose Wrestling, playing a vital role in the program’s growth and success. Under his leadership, the program has seen some of its largest increases in participation. A former wrestler for the Newberg Tigers, Coach King brings both experience and passion to the mat. In addition to guiding youth and middle school athletes, he also volunteers as a high school coach, spending countless hours in the mat room helping wrestlers of all ages develop their skills. Many athletes in the program have had the opportunity to learn directly from Coach King, making him a cornerstone of Scappoose Wrestling.
Coach Branden Bailey
Director of Wrestling Operations and Freestyle and Greco Program
Coach Bailey is a proud Scappoose Wrestling alum who has returned to invest in the next generation of athletes. He has coached at the middle school level and with both the boys’ and girls’ high school teams, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to the program. In addition to assisting with all fundraising efforts, Coach Bailey leads teams each spring to compete across the country and currently serves as the Oregon Wrestling Association’s National Team Director. His dedication to building opportunities for wrestlers at every level makes him an essential part of Scappoose Wrestling’s success.
