Rectitude or Justice (義 Gi): Rectitude is recognised as the strongest principle in the Bushido. It means that a samurai takes their decision with a good reason.
Example: Samurai refusing to betray their lord, even under torture.
Courage(勇 Yū): Courage a crucial attribute in the way of warrior spirit. It does not mean recklessness when facing adversity or danger. Instead, courage is essential to their role, as true warriors do not hide from hardship because it is simply not part of their identity.
Example: Defending one's life when they are weak despite the danger of risking their own life.
Benevolence (仁 Jin): Benevolence refers to Samurai showing power but at the same time showing empathy. So not like other high class people in the world power was what mattered sometimes compassion is what they had to show.
Example: An example is sparing a defeated enemy who surrenders honourably. This highlights not just their compassion but also their character and how they were true warriors.
Respect (礼 Rei): Respect is something we all ask for nowadays as shown by the samurai back then by treating everyone with generosity and dignity even to enemies such as what we lack now. It was seen to them as self- discipline and an extension of love to community.
Example: Bowing to an opponent before a duel.
