So, not all resources are up to date. With questions please contact Student and Family Services.
This is a collection of resources for district staff related to antiracism. There are so many resources, so this list is fluid, and not all-inclusive. Every person is at a different level and understanding of antiracism work, so not everything listed will be useful and/or appropriate for every person at the same time. For context, this was created by and coming from the lens of a white-appearing woman, with BIPOC voices linked as often as possible.

Locally, Carrie Hutchison, a professor at SBCC, holds two online asynchronous courses each semester back to back that are free, non-credit courses. The first is Building an Equity Mindset and the second Applying an Equity Mindset. Learn more here and sign up to be put on the list to hear when the course is open for registration. She is a white woman, but does a great job of bringing in BIPOC perspectives, readings, podcasts, films, and books. She also makes explicit what work is for white people vs. BIPOC. This is mostly geared towards white folks, but open to all.

I encourage you to check out the Social Emotional Learning page for more ideas for Adult Wellness. Here are some more:
ASCD • Breaking Through the "Burden of Strength"
The Lily • For black women, self-care isn’t just a buzzword. It’s an act of radical resistance
Below are books that are specifically about antiracism and we will continue to add to this list. But we encourage you to also read books about Black people, culture, history, and JOY. There are a lot of books about Black trauma, but there is more to Black history than pain, and we encourage you to read more to have a more whole picture of life as a BIPOC person. Here is a list we've started for kids but there are many novels here that can be read by adults as well. There are also many threads on social media like this one with great recs. And, not all people will agree on which books are best to read in your journey to living a more antiracist life, so one book won't give you all of the information you need. Be sure to read from a variety of sources and authors in an effort to continually learn, reflect, and act.

White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism, Robin DiAngelo

If you read or previously read this book, consider that there is also opposition to it, as documented in many articles online, like this one. Obviously everyone will have different opinions about all of these texts, but because this is written by a white author for white people it draws criticism, and it's good to continue to learn from many sources.
