SB Reads is an annual partnership between the South Brunswick School District and the South Brunswick Public Library, and this highly anticipated program always provides unique opportunities for everyone in our district.
The ability to adapt to a variety of social situations, to show empathy, gratitude, and caring for others, is at the heart of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in all of our South Brunswick schools. We demonstrate social awareness by way of mutual respect when our viewpoints differ. Reading expands this awareness as we visit new places, examine different perspectives, and learn how to better understand our communities.
To instill social awareness takes a village: schools, families, and our community members working together. Reading as a town can help us increase our awareness, understanding, and acceptance. With these principles in mind, the theme of our 2026 South Brunswick Reads partnership will be:
Strong Roots, Strong Readers!
As a community, we will read to:
Increase our personal resilience: Reading about those who persevere and overcome adversity can help us to learn to better navigate our own challenges with strength and compassion.
Find our purpose: Books provide knowledge, spark critical thinking, and illuminate pathways for personal improvement, inspiring us to rise with intention and purpose.
Create a caring community: Reading together creates positive memories, common ground, that fosters a stronger, more connected community.
In our schools and our public library, we will cultivate our reading roots through thoughtful read alouds, book recommendations, shared events, and connected activities.
