After a career as a paramedic firefighter for a busy 911 emergency medical service, I furthered my education to become an Physician Assistant. Due to the versatility of this occupation I was first able to work for several years in an urgent care before finding my calling working in Endocrinology as the resident Diabetologist.
Diabetes technology is captivating and I’m fascinated by bio-technology like insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring as well as the impact these technologies have on the lives of patients with chronic disease states. As type 2 diabetes impacts a huge portion of the American population, it has captured the attention of pharmaceutical companies who have developed many non-insulin therapies. Some of these treatments have not only an huge impact on diabetes, but also the sequela of diabetes like congestive heart failure and chronic kidney disease. I strive daily to develop trust with my patients and have been successful at identifying barriers to care that, when addressed, have allowed patients to successfully manage their chronic disease.
Thank you for inviting me to share my career journey with your impressive organization.
