The Standards for Mathematical Practice describe varieties of expertise that mathematics educators at all levels should seek to develop in their students.
Here are digital versions of most games (including directions and recording sheets) students will play over the year to reinforce concepts taught. The Game Center is available in both English and Spanish.
Here are Math Words & Ideas videos and tasks that provide an overview of the year’s mathematical work. Take a closer look at the ideas and types of problems that students will encounter.
Here are Math Tools students are encouraged to use to make their math thinking visible. There are counters, number lines, hundred charts, and more. The Math Tools are available in both English and Spanish.
Here is where you can access digital copies of your child's activity book. This link is for South Brunswick families ONLY. As a reminder, teachers will not use every activity sheet in a unit, and some may be used out of order. For this reason, please do not use any incomplete pages in your child's workbook until the very end (or after) the unit. Additionally, please do not skip ahead in the book, as your child will then be unable to complete activity pages during class.
Insight into your child's math activity workbook
At the beginning of each unit, there is a family letter that provides a helpful overview of the unit’s goals.
At the bottom of some of the pages, there is an opportunity for you to scan the page with your phone's camera to learn more about the skill/strategy. Use this link to scan the page. Here are further directions.
Look at the pages in your child’s workbook every so often to get a sense of what is happening in the classroom. Note that workbook pages may be incomplete and not formally graded, as teachers/students are using multiple assessments, resources, and manipulatives to drive instruction.
