Process

Use the steps below to complete the Why We Code Webquest:

  1. Assign roles for you and your partners: Secretary, Navigator, and Slide Master. The Secretary will be responsible for typing answers to our research question. The Navigator will be responsible for navigating the Webquest website and the research videos. The Slide Master will be responsible for typing the information on the Google Slideshow, as well as adding images and animations/transitions. ALL GROUP MEMBERS are responsible for finding answers to the research question. Use rock, paper, scissors if you cannot agree on roles.
  2. All group members login to Google Drive.
  3. The group Secretary will create a new Google Doc and title it "Why We Code."
  4. At the top of the Google Doc, the Secretary will type our research question: Why do we learn to code in elementary school?
  5. The Secretary will share the Google Doc with the Navigator and Slide Master.
  6. The Navigator will click on the link to watch VIDEO 1 about writing code. ALL GROUP MEMBERS watch the video in search of answers to the research question. The Navigator must pause the video when an answer is found. This will allow time for the group to discuss the answer, and then the Secretary can type the answer on the Google Doc.
  7. Next, click on the link to VIDEO 2 to find more answers to the research question.
  8. Then, click on the link to VIDEO 3 to find more answers to the research question.
  9. After that, the Slide Master will create a new Google Slideshow and share the presentation with the Navigator and Secretary. Working TOGETHER, the Secretary, the Navigator, and the Slide Master will take details from the Google Doc and organize them onto the Google Slideshow. Be sure to add relevant images, animations, and slide transitions to enhance your presentation. Be sure to review the Rubric to see how you will be graded on this project.
  10. Once the Google Slideshow is complete, you will be presenting it to the class. Be sure to plan out which partner will be presenting which slides. Again, check the Rubric to see how you will be scored on the presentation.
