Project Overview:

  • Grade Level: This webquest is designed for students in upper elementary school (grades 3-5)
  • Discipline: Elementary Technology
  • Timeline: This project will take approximately 4-6 lessons to complete
  • Foundational skills required to complete this project:
    • Online navigation skills (navigating between multiple tabs, manipulating online videos, etc.)
    • Creating, sharing, and locating documents in Google Drive
    • Word Processing (Google Docs)
    • Presentation Software (Google Slides)
  • Technology Requirements:
    • Access to reliable internet connections, either wired or wireless
    • Access to desktops, laptops, or Chromebooks that can access the internet
    • Access to computers with speakers, or headphones

Driving Question:

Why do we learn to write code in elementary school?

Description:

Students will work collaboratively to research the reasons they learn to write code in elementary school. They will gather their information on a Google Document, and present a Google Slideshow to the class to share their learning.

Student tasks include:

  • Working collaboratively
  • Navigating the internet and online videos
  • Navigating Google Drive, Docs, and Slides
  • Researching answers to the driving question
  • Presenting their findings to the class

The purpose of this project is to help students connect their learning to their own lives, and the real world. Upon completion of this assignment, students should understand the purpose for writing code in elementary school and beyond.
