Class Syllabus
English 10 Intervention Syllabus Mr. Menghini/Mr. Mackrill
Welcome to class!!!
This class is an opportunity for you to hone and improve your reading and writing skills and pass your English 10 class to move to the next level. We want you to succeed, and reading/writing/speaking skills are essential to succeed in any situation. Therefore, we want you to have every opportunity to develop your skills to function in society.
WHAT DO WE DO IN THIS CLASS?
Good question! This class is about participating in skill building activities AND make up work to pass English 10. We will be reading and writing different kinds of genres to assist the students in developing their skills. We will refer to the English 10 syllabus and incorporate some leveled readings to enhance their skills. Students read classical short stories, poems, and essays along with two novels: Buried Onions by Gary Soto and Nothing But the Truth by Avi.
CLASS EXPECTATIONS
We want you to be in class. We cannot help you develop your skills if you are not in attendance. So first of all, be here. Secondly, when you are in class, participate in ALL activities. You will read aloud in class as a group and as an individual. We cannot make you physically read, so you have all the power and control of your involvement. Thirdly, we will work on writing skills so you need to have your Chromebook charged everyday. You need access to your class work in Google Classroom so please have it ready to go.
ASSIGNMENTS
You have no homework for this class. All work will be completed in class so we can help you with any questions you may have. A great deal of your daily work will be class participation in the skill building activities. You will have some quizzes and tests, and those will be completed in class. Those are on Google Forms, so you will need to have your Chromebook working.
CLASSROOM RULES
We will follow the school rules for eating and drinking in class. You will place your cell phone in the appropriate slot on the wall hanger. You will be assigned a number and will place your cell phone in the corresponding slot. This also includes smart watches. You can chew gum in class as long as I don’t see it or hear it. We will respect each other’s ideas and property so please keep in mind that other students are important.
Thank you.
