Class Description
This one-year course is designed to challenge students in literature and composition. Students will be reading classical and contemporary literature, constructing essays and creative writing projects, and present speeches on various topics throughout the year. This course will help prepare students for the rigor and expectations of AP and dual credit courses offered at SHS.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Independent reading of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
"The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe & "I Heard a Funeral, in my Brain" by Emily Dickinson
Oedipus Rex by Sophocles
Sugar Changed the World by Marc Aronson & Marina Budhos
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Independent reading project (individual and group elements)
