Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, was formed in 1957 at the University of Oklahoma. Mu Alpha Theta is dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students. Currently, more than 124,000 students are Mu Alpha Theta members at more than 2,633 schools in the United States and 23 foreign countries. Scottsbluff High School founded its Mu Alpha Theta chapter during the 2019-2020 school year.
Mu Alpha Theta
Provides a method for schools to recognize and encourage students who enjoy and excel in mathematics.
Organizes a national convention for students and teachers to participate in math-related events and interact with others from across the country.
Rewards outstanding extracurricular achievement by offering special awards, scholarships, and grants to students and their faculty advisers.
Provides mathematics competitions to participating members at their own school through the Log1 Contest, Rocket City Math League, and the Mathematical Minutes Video Contest.
Eligibility & Requirements
Students at Scottsbluff High School can apply for Mu Alpha Theta membership if they meet the following requirements:
Student must be in grades 9-12 enrolled full-time at Scottsbluff High School.
Student has completed or is enrolled in a college preparatory mathematics course in the following list: Algebra 2, Geometry, College Algebra, Precalculus & Trigonometry, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, or AP Calculus BC.
Student GPA in math course work is 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale.
