Scottsbluff Public Schools - Every Child, Every Day
Hello my name is Rod Bussinger! The 2024-2025 school year is my tenth year of teaching Skills and Technical Science classes at Scottsbluff High School. I teach several Project Lead the Way courses within my course load. These include: Intro to Engineering Design, Civil and Architectural Engineering, Computer-Aided Drafting, and Advanced Manufacturing.
I am also the SkillsUSA advisor at Scottsbluff High School. The chapter has 40 active members who are dedicated to furthering their education and giving back to their community. Not even a worldwide pandemic stopped these young adults from giving their time. Over time SkillsUSA has given back to the community, constructing several little libraries around town, rang the bell for Salvation Army, built skating ring ticket booth for the city of Scottsbluff, storage lockers for SHS Softball team, and got their fair share of customer service experience by running concession stands at various sporting events within the district
Following graduating from Gordon High school, I attended Chadron State on a football scholarship. Because of my outstanding achievements on the team, I was inducted into the CSC Hall of Fame in 2004. Not only did I succeed on the field, but in the classroom as well. I was on the Presidents List multiple times throughout my college career.
I served in the United States National Guard for 22 years. After surviving unclassified Spindle Sarcoma in 2014, I retired from the National Guard as a Platoon Sergeant. Because the cancer spread into my bloodstream, my left leg, directly under the kneecap, was amputated. Although my physical state enabled me to continue my service, the time I dedicated to the National Guard I was recognized in the form of awards. Throughout my time in the service, I received several awards for my relentless actions and courage. Some of these awards include: Meritorious Service, Good Conduct, three Army Achievement Medals, Overseas Ribbon, and Expert Marksmanship. I am married to my beautiful wife Jeanine who is a Special Education Teacher at Reconnect and at Scottsbluff High School. We have two children, Jenna who is a Junior attending Hastings College and is continuing her dance talent. Brent, who is Starting his 3rd year Residency as an Pediatrician Doctor practicing at UNMC in Omaha.
