Scottsbluff Public Schools - Every Child, Every Day
Ms. Jessen received her undergraduate degrees in English and German with a minor in Japanese from the University of Nebraska Wesleyan in 2014. During this time, she studied abroad in Japan (2 weeks) and two times in Germany (9 months and 2 weeks). From these experiences she learned a great deal about different cultures, languages, as well as developed a love of travel and learning new ways of living. Additionally she was honored with the Alpha Mu Gamma membership for excellence in both Japanese and German.
Ms. Jessen later went on to receive her Masters to Teach English as a Foreign Language from UTSA in 2018. While working on her masters, she taught children in China through VIPKID and learned many new skills about teaching children through TPR. She also had the opportunity to teach college students who were learning English as a Foreign Language at UNAM.
Ms. Jessen completed her transitional certification for Nebraska in Teaching English from UNK while working at Potter-Dix Schools for three years. During that time, she taught 7-12 ELA, each year bringing a new or different set of grades. When she left Potter-Dix, she moved to Morrill where she taught 10-12 ELA for two years before coming to Bluffs Middle School. While teaching at these two schools, she served as a class sponsor, assistant speech coach, and launched a new speech team as the head coach.
I grew up not far from here in the small village of Lisco on my family's farm and ranch. I was in 4-H (briefly), in choir, band, pep band, swing choir, and marching band. I attended high school at Leyton and graduated with the class of 2008. I received my B.A. in English and German with a minor in Japanese from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2014. I later attended UTSA where I earned my Masters in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. During my final year of my masters program, I became a mom to a wonderful, full of life, curious, and adventurous little boy.
We moved back home (Lisco) where I was a para at Garden County Public Schools for 6 months. This is when I made the choice to become certified to teach in the state of Nebraska. From there I worked at Potter-Dix, then Morrill Public schools and have happily found myself here at Bluffs Middle school.
We currently live near Scottsbluff with my significant other, Travis, and our three spoiled dogs: Lexi, Trixie, and Scooby. My son will also be starting school in the district this year. He is very excited for all of the opportunities that SBPS can offer him and I am as well.
Some of my hobbies are reading, writing, diamond painting, baking, gardening, building Legos, landscape photography, listening to music, and traveling. I am also a fan of the Colorado Avalanche hockey team.
I look forward to meeting, learning, and growing with all of the amazing 8th graders and their parents, and helping them prepare for their next step: High School!
