Sharing the History

by Rachael Flynn, New Media Art students, STAR Project

This project offered an opportunity for a group of final year New Media Art students at the University of the West of Scotland to explore the history of Paisley School of Arts, and take the stories they encountered out into local community groups. As creative practitioners, the students designed workshops which would invite community participants to learn new skills, whilst themselves sharing their own memories and knowledge about this local history. The students involved were Lewis Currie, Michael Laverty, John Montgomery, Jasmin Smith, Lauren Elgar, Heather Scott, Nicole Burns, James McAveety, Hayley Hughes, Tiffany Harkins, Olivia Clark and Anna Magdalena Santos. Formed of three workshop teams, each team was matched to a community group based at or working in partership with STAR Project Paisley. Through a supported development process, each group generated their own workshop approaches, and designed activities which would support discussion and creative engagement with workshop participants. With the development of COVID restrictions, each group worked successfully to convert their visions into onlie workshops. They all created accessible resources, materials and disctrubuted workshop packs to allow for all participants to engage virtually.

Each of the workshop teams created short reports detailing their development, proposal, delivery content, feedback, and reflections, which can be accessed below.
