SBCUSD Demonstration Team
Welcome to our Demonstration Teacher Information Page
SBCUSD has developed the Demonstration Teacher Program to share exemplary teaching practices and identify teachers with a passion to share their skills and knowledge in the instruction of NGSS and Common Core State Standards. This innovative program provides instructional support to all District teachers and builds teacher leaders within the classroom. The program was developed collaboratively with the San Bernardino Teachers Association, California State University San Bernardino Faculty, and San Bernardino City Unified Program Specialists, Principals, and Human Resources Certificated Staff.
Currently we employ 55 Demonstration Teachers and 1 Instructional Videographer at sites throughout the district. Teachers receive a 5% salary increase while working an 8 hour per day, 214-day school year. They participate in video recording and editing, attend conferences and ongoing professional learning opportunities, and utilize social media as a means of communicating with other teachers.
Demonstration Teacher Program Objectives
The goal of the Demonstration Teacher program is to enhance teacher quality and effectiveness in our school district and build a pipeline of high quality future teachers by using our own exemplar teachers as resources and models. Our objectives are to create a pathway for teacher leadership in our district; support district teachers through observation, coaching and mentorship; and provide exemplary models of teaching practice for current and future teachers to observe (through personal observation and video).
The Demonstration Teacher Program showcases its innovative strategies and successes with the Board of Education as part of the board's March 2022 meeting. As a program within the Employee Development Department, teachers from the program share its value and positive impact for teaching colleagues within the San Bernardino City USD.
