I am Regina Alvarez, a fifth-grade teacher at San Bernardino City Unified School District and a student in the Instructional Design and Technology M.A. program at California State University, San Bernardino. I have also earned both my B.S. in Nutrition and Food Science and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CSUSB. I started my educational journey interested in making a difference in people's lives. I wanted to educate individuals on how to make healthy life choices. I soon realized through my interest in health that my passion was teaching and education. I began my teaching career as a literacy intervention teacher at SBCUSD, and I was proud to impact students’ lives as students progressed in their skills. In my current position, I have helped students advance out of ELPAC "Spanish Only" placements, and I propelled students' candidacy for enrollment in Magnet Schools. It is an honor to work with future generations, and I hope to continue having an effect on students’ academics as well as the community.

Goals
Through the Instructional Design and Technology program, I have gained knowledge and skills that have made me a more effective teacher. My passion lies in creating meaningful learning experiences where students feel empowered and capable of achieving success. Transitioning into the field of instructional design will allow me to expand my impact beyond the classroom. In this field, I can apply my strengths and talents without the limitations of an assigned curriculum. I feel positioned to bridge gaps in a different role, and I aspire to create and refine curriculum as an instructional designer.

Reflection
Instructional design has helped me understand why certain teaching approaches work. For instance, I have used Gagne's 9 events for instruction numerous times without realizing that there was scientific research, and theory behind my actions in a classroom. Through the knowledge that I gained about instructional design I feel confident to build effective lessons and learning materials. I have also broadened my knowledge of technologies that can be integrated into learning experiences to provide a range of access for all learners.
