Purpose of this Class
Objective, Essential Question, Writing Prompt, and Standards
Objective: Students will be able to write an argument connecting literature to their own lives. Analyze literary texts and write an argument.
Essential Question: What can we learn about the real world from fiction?
Unit Writing Prompt: Write an argument in which you make a claim based on literary works. Be sure to use evidence from the texts to support and develop your thinking.
CCSS ELA 9-10 Priority Standards:
Reading Informational: 1. Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
2. Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text.
Writing: 1. Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.
2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content
