CLASSES
Computer Readiness
Computer Readiness is designed for adult learners who want to develop beginning computer
skills and build confidence using technology for school, work, and everyday life. This course
provides step-by-step support for students who are new to computers or need additional
practice before entering the digital literacy pathway.
Students learn through hands-on activities, guided practice, keyboarding development, and
real-world technology tasks. The course emphasizes digital confidence, problem-solving, and
independent learning habits.
Step 1
Digital Literacy
This course is designed for adult learners seeking to enhance their digital literacy with a focus on digital literacy standards and modules in three main areas:
Essential Computer Skills - Basic computer skills, internet basics, using email, Windows OS, Mac OS
Essential Software Skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs
Using Technology in Daily Life - Social Media, information literacy, career search skills, accessing telehealth appointments, supporting K-12 distance learning, your digital footprint.
Step 2
Advanced Skills Lab
Advanced Skills Lab is designed for students who complete Northstar and are ready for next-step learning. Students continue building workplace and career-ready digital skills using Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, CustomGuide, digital booklets, and guided project-based activities.
The lab emphasizes work-based learning, independent problem-solving, workplace communication, and digital productivity. Students strengthen technology skills that support employment, education, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning.
