Barber Program Information
The Barber Apprentice training is composed of:
A Barber Pre-Apprentice class (40 hours), and
Working 32-40 hours per week in an on-the-job training at a licensed barber shop accumulating 3200 hours, and
Attending Related and Supplemental Instruction (RSI) classes on scheduled Mondays or Wednesdays 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. as designated by the Coordinator. (3 hours per week). The class will be held at the Inland Career Education Center, 1200 North E Street, San Bernardino, 92405.

Estimated completion time will be from 18 to 24 months

Meet all minimum program requirements
Obtain a sponsor that will employ you as an apprentice barber once you obtain your apprentice license
Submit an application during the designated application period
Attend mandatory Barber Orientation with the Establishment Owner who plans to employ you
Enroll in the Pre-Apprentice Barber Class and pay all fees

Requirements:
Applicants must meet the minimum requirements of the California Board of Barber Examiners, which are:
Show proof of a 10th-grade education or equivalent.
Be 18 years of age.
If convicted of a felony all related arrest, court, parole, and or probation documents must be provided.
Not have a Barber license revoked.
Not submitted falsified information to the Barber Board
Possess a current valid U.S. government-issued picture ID
Possess a current valid Social Security Card, DHS Authorization to Work card, or Tax Identification Number card (numero del ITIN)
Non-native English speakers must have an Intermediate-High English proficiency
Fees:
- Pre-Apprentice Supply fees: All Apprentice Barber fees ($2000) are due at Orientation.
- All class fees are due on Orientation Day, August 19, 2025
- VA Benefits are now accepted. Call (760) 212-1996 for information.
Barber/Pre-Apprentice
- This class covers the laws and regulations of the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, basic patron protection, sanitation, and disinfection procedures. Students spend part of their time in hands-on activities learning barbering. This class is primarily designed to meet the requirements for entrance into the two-year California Barber Apprentice Program (on-the-job training)
