WHAT IS THE NEDP?
NEDP is a state and nationally recognized computer-based assessment program for motivated adults with life and work experience. The NEDP is not a test. It is a flexible, self-paced assessment program where students work independently on a series of online assignments that cover a variety of academic subjects.
WHAT IS THE COST?
The program is FREE!
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER THE PROGRAM?
Students must be at a 9th grade level in CASAS—Reading 236, Mathematics 226 – and must commit to meeting once a week with an NEDP Advisor/Assessor. The average time to complete the program varies, but many students finish in 6-12 months, depending on how quickly modules are completed.
ASSIGNMENTS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM
Module 1: Communication, Cultural, and Media Literacy
Covers academic citing, summarizing, plagiarism, paraphrasing, and English language skills.
Module 2: Applied Math/Numeracy
Presents complex mathematical lessons/activities through real-life experiences, e.g., budgeting, purchasing, leasing, opening a bank account, understanding investments.
Module 3: Information and Communication Technology
Students will learn how to create presentations, reports, spreadsheets, graphs, and how to upload and submit documents.
Module 4: Health Literacy
Includes medical recommendations to improve quality of life; topics cover emotional and physical health such as stress management, anxiety, cholesterol, benefits of exercise, and much more.
Module 5: Civic Literacy and Community Participation
Comprehensive overview of federal, civil, and community policies. Students will be asked to address issues presently hurtful to their neighborhood/community and brainstorm possible solutions or actions to take to obtain positive changes.
Module 6: Geography and History
Project-based activities will engage students in research and analysis of geographical areas and events in history.
Module 7: Consumer Awareness
Activities will engage students in researching, analyzing, and presenting scenarios that can occur as a consumer/buyer.
Module 8: Science
Project-based activities will engage students in research and analysis using the scientific method.
Module 9: Twenty-first Century Workplace
Projects will require students to research, analyze, and adapt 21 Century Skills in job searches and mock job interviews.
Module 10: College and Career Competency
Activities will ask for a self-evaluation of College & Career knowledge and skills to guide students to a potential career.
WHAT CERTIFICATE WILL YOU RECEIVE UPON THE COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM?
You will be issued a High School Diploma upon the completion of all the required assignments.
