The Missouri Gateway Award was established to provide a yearly list of quality literature selections for young adults spanning different genres and interests. Each year librarians, teachers, and students read hundreds of books and narrow down the list to the top 15 books. Students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to read at least two of these nominees by early March. The voting period takes place in early March, and the winning title is announced in April. Students who have read two or more nominees will be invited to a special lunch with prizes and will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite book.
