Title I Allowability
Title I, Part A Funds are used to support effective, evidence-based educational strategies that close the achievement gap and enable the students to meet the state's challenging academic standards.”
Title I funded expenditures must be:
Meeting a need identified in the School Plan for Student Achievement (link to SPSA here)
Approved by School Site Council annually and reviewed for effectiveness by the SSC annually.
Title I funded items must supplement NOT supplant.
Title I CAN Fund
Extra duty to analyze data for struggling students and to plan supplemental services and programs
Supplemental software to support the academic program
Subs to push in and support small groups of struggling students
Subs to cover for teachers attending PD to support academic achievement
Field Trips to academic destinations with an academic purpose
Snacks and light refreshments for supplemental parent workshops
Technology and computers to support supplemental programs
Conference attendance fees in support of programs tied to improving student achievement and in line with the SPSA. Conference-related items guidance:
- Within 50 miles: Mileage yes, food must be justified, no hotel
- Beyond 50 miles: Airfare yes, hotel yes, meals: breakfast yes if starts before 6, lunch yes if extends after 2, dinner yes if after 7
- Out-of-state conferences must be rare, unique and district approved
Title I CAN'T fund
Cannot fund extra duty, except for supplemental services (not for lesson planning, data chats, or to teach a 0 or 7th period)
Cannot pay for extra duty sports or music. Must be related to ELD, ELA or Math
Cannot pay for itinerant subs to cover classes. Only for push in supplemental activities.
No field trips to amusement parks
No appliances of any kind (coffee makers)
Food must be for parent workshops/programs only- not “to stock” the parent center
Awards- certificates only, no medals or trophies
Incentives- must be based on academic achievement and have an academic purpose (books, pencils,notebooks et cetera)
Conferences should be local (So Cal), and not out of state. Out-of-state conferences require a clear justification with a plan to implement changes upon return.
