RICCARDI PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Congratulations - we made it through September - getting everyone up early, getting lunch plans set and backpacks ready as well as navigating drop off at school - no small challenges, these! And of course everyone needs to remember their sneakers for PE days - something we are having about a 90% success rate with right now - so keep it going!
The school year got off to a cool start - literally and figuratively if you recall those 40 degree mornings. We began with some introductory games, just to get moving and renew relationships with all the familiar faces (and get to know some new ones). The older students (3-6) played FireBall and Capture the Ball games. We also began a Football Unit and have been working on throwing and catching.
The younger students (K-2) worked on basic locomotor movements - run, skip, walk, gallop, leap, jump and they enjoyed imitating animals of all sorts. In addition we played a few of our thousand and one variations of tag. Lastly we did some circle dances - putting the Razz in Razza Ma Tazz!!
This year all the classes had an opportunity to come up with their own PE Class Rules. The work of each group was combined into one document - a sort of Riccardi PE Constitution. Smart kids, smart rules and good words to live and play by. Here is what the students came up with:
PHYSICAL EDUCATION RULES
— as created by the students of Riccardi School, September 2025 —
Be Prepared - sneakers, no dangling jewelry (3-6 PE grade drops after two unprepareds).
Respect the teacher - do not talk during instruction, stop and listen on signal.
Good Sportsmanship - treat others as you want to be treated, be nice.
Play Safely - be aware of what is around you, be in control, use equipment properly.
Keep Hands and Feet to yourself.
Enter the gym and line up in a quiet, orderly manner.
Have Fun and make the class Fun for others.
In October we will continue to work on ball skills for K-2 including catching, underhand/overhand throwing and bowling as well as foot skills. Grades 3-6 will work in our Football Unit and Soccer Unit, focusing on dribbling, punting, kicking and passing and then utilizing skills in a variety of game settings. Halloween looms so we have some games to get everyone ready for the season. Thanks for your support and we are glad to see everyone moving around, learning, getting stronger and having fun.
