My name is Anne Longver and I am the K-2 School Counselor! I am very excited to work with your kiddos and look forward to the school year!
I went to Plymouth State University for both my undergraduate and graduate programs and earned my B.S. in Psychology, and an M.E.d in School Counseling. This is my tenth year as a School Counselor in the district.
I've always wanted to become a School Counselor because I love being able to help students academically, socially and personally. I do this through classroom SEL lessons, small groups, and individually. Through the counseling program, my goal is to provide students with opportunities that help them reach their full potential as well as preparing them to become responsible citizens in our changing world. Working for our students is a team effort so I like to collaborate with staff, families and outside resources in our community as well.
Please know that I am here for you all and please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm looking forward to working with you!
When not in school, I love to…
-Go on adventures with my two boys
-Cook and bake new things
-Spend time with my family and friends
-Listen to music
-Check out new coffee shops
Individually
Working individually with students with a issue or concern that they have. This can be done through games and activities which allows the child to say through play what they may struggle with putting into words.
Small Groups
Students who have a shared concern will come together and process their thoughts and feelings as a group in order to work through their concerns. Some topics are change in families, grief/loss, social skills or friendship skills.
Classroom Lessons
I visit classrooms and present lessons to help students "fill their toolboxes" with skills such as problem solving, decision making and being a respectful citizen. Lessons are flexible so if something comes up and a specific area needs to be addressed I the classroom I am able to do so.
Lunch Bunches
These small groups meet in my office for lunch as a time to get to know each other, talk about our peaches and pits (which is what we call our high and lows of the day) and any other concerns or discussions that students want to share. All students are able to request a lunch bunch.
Clubs
Students have the opportunity to create a club based on their interests. These usually take place during their recess time and we will have activities, challenges or research based on the topic of the club.
Remember: Counseling services are available to ALL students, not just those in crisis situations. Counseling focuses on prevention, intervention, and/or treatment.
