Google Forms

Google Forms is a cloud-based questionnaire and survey solution with real-time collaboration and powerful tools to customize form questions.

As we move into Remote Learning many teachers have decided to start using Forms to assign videos, create exit tickets, check comprehension in the form of a worksheet or quiz, etc..

A few quick Form Tips:

  • always set your form to collect email addresses of those responding/completing the form---this will be helpful if you forgot to include a place for people to put their names

  • you can set questions as required so they can't be skipped or left unanswered by simply selecting the "Required" option in the lower right corner of each added question or item in the form

  • by using the quizzes option in settings you can set the form to be graded/corrected automatically---this works well for True/False, multiple choice, and one word answers (spelling can be an issue though)

  • the fastest and easiest way to share Forms is either by assigning them in Classroom or providing students a link, which you can get when you select "Send"

  • to view responses you need to open the original Form you made and select the "Responses" tab---you will see a summary of all responses, but also have the option to view individual responses or view the responses on a Google Sheet

YouTube

Many teachers aren't aware that they have access to YouTube through their school-issued Google accounts, but they do. Google bought YouTube in November of 2006 and it has been part of our GSuite ever since. You can easily sign in and activate your YouTube account then start uploading and sharing videos that you share with your students.

Siince YouTube is linked to Google you can easily insert a YouTube video in any Google Slide, Drawing, Form, and even on Classroom.

For example, you could embed a video lesson with you giving instruction into a Form and then students can answer a few questions regarding that lesson and submit it to you to track their daily interaction with you as we work through Remote Learning.

You can make playlists in YouTube to share with specific groups of children, which you can also restrict you has access. Check out some of the videos below for additional ways to use YouTube in your class.

Make sure you open every video you want to share and APPROVE so kids can view them---whether they're yours or one found on YouTube.

You can embed your own YouTube video into an EDpuzzle to assign questions and provide an interactive element to the video as well.

One concern that often comes up regarding posting videos via YouTube is when a student opens a video they can get distracted by the other videos promoted or suggested and possibly exposed to inappropriate comments or videos. To avoid that you can embed your YouTube videos in other GSuite tools like a Google Form or Slide.
