The sun shines of beaming heat and light approximately 93 million miles away from our small little green planet. This animated gif is showing the solar insolation that Earth receives from the Sun. The Earth's tilt causes all of this light and heat to actually be of use in different parts of the globe so they don't freeze. The only way any of this solar insolation will help heat the parts of the Earth is if our Earth tilts which it does, and if it didn't tilt then we would have a lot of weather problems. The Earth's tilt causes the seasons of the year such as Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall/Autumn. That is why some parts of the globe are in summer when we are having winter.
