Norway Maple .... Norway maple was originally introduced into North America by botanist John Bartram of Philadelphia who received seedlings from Philip Miller of London in 1756. Norway maples are native to Europe and Western Asia. It was first cultivated in England around 1683 and brought to the US in 1756. It is believed to have gotten here by way of nurseries in England. The Norway Maple is invasive because it blocks out the sun from other plants that are trying to grow underneath. They are spread rapidly from seeds blown away by the wind and they crowd out sugar maples and other plants, which causes less diversity of plants and trees. The Norway Maple has fewer problems and diseases than other trees so it out-competes them.
