My name is Sarah Gagne and I am the school nurse at Mary C. Dondero Elementary School. Having grown up in Newport, NH, I am a New Hampshire girl at heart. Following high school graduation, I attended the University of New Hampshire where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. After graduating in 2000, I began my nursing career on the Barbara Bush Pediatric Unit at Maine Medical Center, where I learned many skills I rely on today. In 2003, I relocated to be closer to my parents after the birth of my second child. I advanced my career at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit caring for critically ill children. In 2008, I left DHMC to fulfill a professional dream to work in the field of organ donation. Facilitating organ donation and working with families who made the choice to give the gift of life during a time of intense personal loss was some of the most rewarding work of my career. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to gain experience in a broad range of professional roles including helping open Elliot Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. I have also worked as a home health nurse caring for patients in their homes and as a pediatric and mother-baby nurse at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
I live in Portsmouth with my husband, Mark and our two rescue pups, Chole and Lola. I have three daughters, Emily (a grad student at New England College), Molly (a senior at Southern New Hampshire University) and Kate (a sophomore at New England College). In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family, camping, watching sporting events (especially when my kids are playing), skiing, knitting socks, sewing and reading. I love the ocean and the mountains equally, and feel very lucky to have the best of both worlds here in NH.
