What is a Portrait of a Graduate?
A Portrait of a Graduate (PoG) is a community-developed vision for what students need to succeed in school and beyond. PoGs are created to help schools and districts:
Set a shared vision
PoGs help create a unified vision for teaching and learning, and guide decisions and practices.
Prepare students
PoGs help prepare students for the future by identifying the skills and competencies they need to succeed.
Promote student agency
PoGs put students at the center of the educational model, and emphasize the need for self-regulation and autonomy.
Shift pedagogy
PoGs can shift the focus of teaching/learning toward more teacher facilitation and coaching, and less direct instruction.
