During the first few weeks of school we will be working together to become a classroom community. We will over time turn into a family within this third grade classroom. Community building involves sharing and learning about classmates and working together to create a classroom pledge. Students will also learn the layout of the classroom as well as the materials and rules, learn the schedule which will help them fall into a daily schedule. We will be doing a lot of shared activities, team building and whole class activites during this time. We will spend time each day doing a Morning Meeting which will consist of a greeting, share, message and an activity. This will help solidify our class family.
If you or your child have any specific questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly. I am looking forward to this year and all of the wonderful things we can accomplish together!
Our class will work together to create a classroom pledge. We will discuss what each of us is looking for in our classroom environment and how we can ensure that we are all successful. While we will work together on our class pledge, I do have a few additional rules for the classroom.
Respect yourself, Respect others, and Respect your school
Be kind to everyone.
Always try your best!
Sharing is a fundamental skills that plays a crucial role in the development of social-emotional learning among elementary students. It is important for children to learn how to share and take turns to cultivate positive relationships and interactions with their peers. By understanding the concept of sharing, students can foster a sense of empathy and cooperation, which are essential traits for their emotional and social growth. Sharing is a rich and vital part of a daily Morning Meeting. Sharing offers ample opportunities to practice and reinforce the speaking, listening, and thinking skills that are so crucial to school success. As social beings, we learn through communicating with others and this is true no matter what the subject matter. Sharing creates opportunites for students to ask thoughtful and meaningful questions.
As our class becomes a family, we will ensure that all members are engaged and aware of the different roles that take place within the classroom community. Every member of the classroom has a role to play to make our classroom a place where every student can learn and feel welcome. We will continuously rotate through classroom responsibilities as well as our daily routines and expectations. I believe that all students want to strive to meet all expectations and I want them to have an active role within the classroom. Students will be given choices throughout the day including flexible seating, small group and partner work, as well as project and activity choices.
Our class will participate in the Scholastic Book Club book orders. Flyers will be sent home every month. Scholastic Book Club is a great way for students to build their libraries at home, discover new books/genres, and earn our class points to help us get new books to add to our classroom library. I can also provide your child with new recommendations and books that are perfect for them. If you would like to place an order please visit Scholastic Book Club and click on "Connect to Teacher", and use our class code which is: WWZC9 to place an order. I will send a friendly reminder each month as we approach the monthly due date in case your family would like to order any books.
We will be celebrating every child's birthday within the classroom. We are not able to share birthday snacks or treats to celebrate their birthdays. Below are a few other suggestions on how your child can celebrate their birthday with the class.
Come read a book to the class: This can be a book from home or from my classroom.
Favorite Book: Have your child bring in his/her favorite book to share with the class. Your child or I can read it.
Non-Edible Items: Send in non-edible items such as pencil, eraser, stickers, book, small puzzle etc.
A gift for the classroom: Send in a wrapped item that your child can open and then share with the class. Items can include, board game, card game, puzzle or something on my wish list.
Please contact me prior to your child's birthday so I can make arrangements if necessary.
*All summer birthdays can be celebrated in June. If your child has a summer birthday, you are more than welcome to reach out and we can find a date that works best for both of us.
