GRADING
The goal of the HBMS Art Program is to provide opportunities for all students to achieve success and to develop a love of art. Students are not graded solely on artistic skill. Rather, student achievement is a reflection of effort, attitude and individual growth.
Note About PowerSchool
Time management and accountability are valuable skills being developed in middle school. Due to the nature of a studio course like 7th and 8th grade art class, students are allowed more freedom to pace themselves.
There will never be points deducted for handing artwork in late as I don't believe in penalizing students who are focused and need more time. However, there are times when students need to be prodded along. When the majority of the class is finished, we will move on to the next project. I advise students during each class as to time remaining for the current assignment.
Students who did not finish the assignment yet will receive a zero in PowerSchool until its completion. There are opportunities to come in during skills or Art Club to complete the assignment. The zero merely serves as a motivator and a reality check for students that, yes they actually do need to finish and hand in their assignments. Students are frequently reminded of this grading policy. If you have any questions regarding grading in art class, please do not hesitate to contact me. lynne.ouellette@sau41.org
