Their Long Journey

By: Brayden Jenkins & Charlie Alan

Published: 1/2/19

At the seashore they watched,

The water glimmered in the moonlight,

The animals get the sleep they want

And wake up just at sunlight.

For this particular morning,

The sailors set sail,

The family members eyes were adorning,

For they weren’t to cry, but wail.

Eight o’ clock, the time has come,

The ship set off,

The trip will be long,

But the time is just enough.

But their destination will soon arrive,

And when they get there,

They will all feel alive.

The Old One

By: T.S

Jessica. There she was. My best friend. My old best friend. She walked down the hall and stopped at the locker next to mine. I tried to stuff myself in the locker, but I couldn’t.

“So, Nicki, what’s happening?” She asked with a smirk on her face.

“Uh-uh-umm, n-not much,” I mumbled.

She slammed the locker door in my face.

“What was that?” She asked me. She sounded so nice right now, but I knew underneath, she was just trying to lure me in, and then she would cook me up for dinner.

“I said, NOT MUCH!” I screamed in her face.

“Woah, someone's a little sassy today,” She smirked.

“I am not sassy. Now go away!”

“Aww, Nicki, it’s okay. Calm down.” She put her hand on my back.

“NO, IT’S NOT! You are just so mean to me. GO AWAY!”

She strutted down the hall, whispering to some of her minions. They glanced back at me and giggled. She looked at me with a smug face. I glared at her. She just walked down the hall to science. Too bad I had to follow her.

“Hey Nick, what’s up?”

“It's Nicky.”I reminded Ninette.

“Jeez, not even in a good mood for nicknames.”

Ninette was my BFF. She used to be one of Jessica’s minions. I fired her from the job. Well, I made her quit. She was the president of the WE HATE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB. Yes, that's me. Mickey Mouse. I don't mind the name Micky, but Mickey Mouse, NO! Especially if it's coming from Jessica.

“No, I'm not.”

“Jessica again?”

“Yep.”

“Hey Besties! What’s going on??” Jessica came over to our lab station with her ‘bestie’, Janette.

“Nothing much,” I mumbled again.

“What Mickey Mouse?”

“I. Am. Not. Mickey. Mouse.”

“Oh yes, you are. If you don’t like me calling you that, then why don’t you tell Mr. Principal Daddy of yours that we aren’t friends anymore?”

Yes, that's right. The principal is my dad. And another yes, he doesn't know that Jessica and I aren't best friends anymore. He thinks Jessica is too perfect to be mean. But yet again, he’s wrong. My dad is ALWAYS wrong. He was wrong about my brother always being nice to me. He was wrong about me always starting our sibling fights. He was wrong about letting my brother get his own dog, which likes to attack me when my parents aren't looking.

“Just. Go. AWAY!” I stared at her.

“Fine. But stop being so sensitive Nicki!”

I was about to say something when Ninette slapped her hand over my mouth.

“Just ignore her. We all know that you’re better than she is.” She whispered in my ear. Ninette always say that, but today it seemed to help me feel a little bit better.

The bell rang and school was over. I nearly jumped up out of my seat, but then I remembered that I had to stay after school to finish my exam with the other person who hadn’t finished. I didn’t know who it was, but I knew that it wasn’t Ninette. She was the smartest kid in the whole school, and finishes tests in about 15 minutes flat. I, on the other hand, am very slow. I take about 2 hours to do a test.

“Excuse me Miss Cappello?” Mrs. Mulroy said.

“Yes?” I asked. Mrs. Mulroy was known to be the meanest teacher EVER!

“The student that will be in here finishing the test will be Jessica Blume.”

Oh no. This can’t be happening. Jessica?? At just that moment she walked in. When she saw me, she smirked. She came and sat down right next to me. I decided that I should just try to get my test done before I would be to mad to do anything.

In the middle of the test, I heard a,

“Psst. Nicki?”

“What?” I whispered to Jessica. She showed me a note that said, I’m so glad that you didn’t get mad at me during science. I wanted to tell you that I want to be friends again. I’m so sorry for being mean to you!

As I got to the last word, she yelled out,

“Mrs. Mulroy? Nicki is cheating off of me!” I knew it. Same old Jessica. That's when I knew we were never going to be friends again.

A Laugh

By: Lilian Schultheiss, 8th grader

loud,

cute,

honest,

funny,

lovely,

smile worthy,

wanted,

enjoyed,

their laugh

was

what everyone

wanted to see,

what everyone

wanted to hear,

their laugh

was so lovely

it was like

heaven

had been released

for just a little bit

and joy was created

among everyone.
