Where does stop animation come from?

--Photographer Eadweard Muybridge is known as the "Grandfather of the Motion Picture".

--Muybridge's experiments in photographing moving animals began in 1872, that's 149 years ago!!

--Muybridge went through many years of struggle trying to accomplish taking a photograph that showed how an animal moved. Let's think about why this might be. Taking the example of the horse above, why do you think he might have had trouble taking a photos that showed these really tiny and specific moments in time?

-- The image above, "The Horse in Motion" was taken in 1882, 10 years after he started trying to accomplish this task. That is some amazing persistence! Persistence is a big part of being a tinkerer. It's the ability to keep trying something even if you keep failing. Learn from your failings tinker club members!

-- The Horse in Motion is thought to be the first even motion picture which led to the invention of the movies we watch today!

-- This experiment proved without a doubt something that no one had ever been able to witness with their own eyes, that a horse lifts all four hooves off the ground at a particular point when running.
