Writing

Writers can develop ideas for persuasive speeches by seeing ways that they can make a difference.

Use your writing organizer from earlier this week to write a persuasive paper about your topic (What would make TFS better?).

Write a letter to Mrs. Champlin, Mrs. DeLuca, or the teachers and students at TFS to persuade them about a difference that could be made at TFS to make it even better. Share it with me.

Include:

  • Introduction

    • Hook the reader: Ask a question, Tell a short story about your experience, give a fact

      • TFS is a GREAT PLACE! Maybe remind your reader of what makes TFS good, before telling them what would make it even better

      • Use phrases like: "I know you might be thinking/worrying/feeling...", "Let me explain...",

    • Thesis Statement: Tell your opinion, make a claim about what needs to happen

  • Body

    • Give reasons why we should care about your opinion. Why would this make a difference?

      • Provide supporting details to explain each reason

    • Use transition words (for example, another reason, also, because, since, as a result, not only, but)

    • Give solutions with supporting details

  • Conclusion

    • Restate your opinion

    • Remind your reader about what you think would make a positive difference at TFS

Writing

  • Write a letter to me in the notebook I sent home or in Office365. Look on the "Writing" page of our class website for instructions on how you can share your writing with me.

    • Tell me how your learning at home has been going. What are you enjoying? What is going well? What don't you like as much or what has been challenging? You can also tell me about anything else that has happened since we last saw each other. Use a lot of detail so I can really visualize how you've been feeling and what's been going on.

    • Try and write at least a paragraph, 5 - 6 sentences. Check your writing for spelling. If you used any sight words from the sight word cards, they should be spelled correctly.
