The Second Step Program is a social-emotional learning program that directly teaches skills to students to help support an environment in the school that is safe, welcoming, and optimizes learning. The four themes addressed in this program are: skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving. This resource is utilized in grades K-6 during morning meeting time and does not take the place of scheduled instructional minutes.
MMS Advisory is comprised of two segments: Academic Advisory and Social-Emotional Advisory. During Academic Advisory (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) students are able to complete their iReady minutes and work on other academic tasks such as work completion, organization, and studying. In Social-Emotional Advisory, students are introduced to the four concepts in the behavior matrix: Supportive, Mature, Determined, and Fun. These words were selected by the students and are used to outline all of the behavioral expectations at MMS.
