Resources listed below are to assist you in choosing a topic. You may also want to consult your Advisor for to assist with generating ideas.
Complete this survey to identify topic areas of interest. Answer questions with as much detail as possible. Reflect upon your answers to help you choose a topic.
Show evidence of research for career resources. Evidence may be acquired using college websites and consist of showing graduation requirements, tuition and fees, room and board, time to complete program, etc. Other evidence may consist of job statistics, average salary, etc.
Interview a professional within your field. It is recommended that you prepare a list of 10 questions prior to the interview.
Create a professional resume as though you have completed the training necessary to acquire your intended job. Consider what may be appealing to a potential employer (i.e. internships, labs, projects, etc.)
Create a cover letter for an actual current job opening in the field you are looking to pursue.
Using a spreadsheet, create a budget for your adult life, as though you have completed the training and obtained the job. Be sure to consider the following:
Net income. You may use national average income, if this information is not available to you for the job you obtained.
Housing. Your housing must be within a reasonable commute to your job. Include the add from the realtor, if possible.
Utilities: Internet, cable, phone, electricity, water/sewer, heating/cooling
Transportation: Personal vehicle (plus insurance, registration, cost to run), public transportation (if available), other
Financial Aid and Student Loans
Discretionary spending: Entertainment, clothing, food, etc.
