The Roots & Wings Collective is so excited to have Richard Haynes join us every Monday for the month to teach, collaborate, and express with us!
He is a well-regarded visual storyteller and culture keeper. He "uses his art to help make society aware of the invisible in this world and to advocate unity. His artwork is a reflection of his own diverse experiences and colorful life. Not only is he a talented painter and photographer, but he is also a skilled educator, lecturer, mentor, and advocate for social justice". Born in Charleston SC, he later served in the US Air Force. Then he moved to Harlem in NYC where he got his MFA from Pratt Institute. Since he has worked in publishing, higher education as a professor, and artistry as an art instructor at the Currier Museum. Now his is the Associate Director of Admissions for Diversity at UNH.
Each student will be creating our own piece inspired by Haynes's artwork while integrating our own unique stories. These will later be displayed and presented to the public!! Time and place are TBD.
The Roots & Wings Collective hosted a Multicultural Food Fair on May 3rd, 2025. It celebrated the diverse cultures in our community through the community's love of food. We partnered with local restaurants and invited students and community members and families to bring in their own favorite cultural foods as well! These recipes and foods related to their culture, or was a family recipe passed down through generations. With these recipes, we will post an online cookbook compiling the special recipes and stories of individuals, alongside photos! We hope this will be an annual occurrence!
