2025-2026
These are activities from THIS YEAR
Folk Songs
3rd graders learned about folk songs: songs that are passed down in a culture through generations.
We learned about songs sung to help make the world a better place, focusing on three songs that were written or performed by Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie.
"This Land is Your Land" is also one of our whole-school songs, as written and performed by Woody Guthrie.
"Peace Like a River" is about keeping peace, love, and joy alive in your heart. We learned this song first in sign language, then played it on the fourth AND first string of the ukulele.
"If I Had a Hammer" is about using tools to make the world better, bringing justice, peace, and love to everyone. We found out that every string on the ukulele sounds good in this song, but that ending on "do," which is the third string of the ukulele sounds best.
