LIBRARY FAQs

Scheduling

Students across all grade levels visit the library regularly throughout the school year:

• Grades K–4: Visit the library weekly with their class during their scheduled time.

• Grades 5–6: Visit the library weekly with either their homeroom or subject-area teachers.

• Grades 7–8: Visit during their ELA (English Language Arts) and Social Studies blocks to support learning and research in these subjects.

Checkout

Students can check out library books weekly during their scheduled class library time, or during open library blocks throughout the day with teacher permission.

• Loan Period: Books are checked out for two weeks at a time.

• Early Swaps: Finished early? Students are always welcome to bring their books back before the two weeks are up and swap them for new ones.

• Renewals: If a student needs more time to finish a book, they can easily renew it.

Book Care

At the start of the school year, all students in grades K-4  and 5-8  review essential book care rules to keep our library collection in great shape.

• Personalized Bags: Students in grades K–3 receive a durable, personalized plastic book bag labeled with their name, teacher, and assigned library day.

• Safe Transport: These bags help younger students safely carry their books back and forth between the classroom, library, and home.

Overdue Materials

To ensure all classmates have the chance to enjoy our collection, returning books on time is essential. 

• Overdue Notices: Reminders are sent home monthly in students' Friday folders. A follow-up email will be sent if needed.

• Fines: There are no monetary fines for overdue books.

Lost and Damaged Books

Accidents happen! If a library book is lost or damaged beyond repair, please notify the Mrs. Levasseur as soon as possible. Promptly reporting or taking care of lost and damaged items helps us keep our library collection complete and well-stocked for everyone to enjoy.

• Replacement Fees: Families are responsible for the cost of replacing lost or severely damaged books.

• Notices & Follow-up: Payment reminders and details regarding a specific book's replacement cost will be sent home in students' Friday folders, followed by an email if needed.

Book Fairs

Two Book Fairs are held each school year to promote reading and support our school community:

• Fall Book Fair: Sponsored by the Library and held for one week in early November. Information goes home in mid-October, and dates coincide with Parent-Teacher Conference Day.

• Spring Book Fair: Sponsored by the PTO later in the school year.

• Where the Funds Go: Proceeds from the Fall Fair is used to grow our library collection, bring in visiting authors, and fund special literacy events for students.
