Each student will work independently to discover the United States.
1: Become a master at the Name That State game. Just click on the map below to go to the site. This game will teach you all fifty states. This first step is vital, so be sure you master this game before moving on to the next!

2. Learn the capitals by playing the different games following:
State Capitals Game -Many game choices to choose from
US States and Capitals by Region Game - This game will help you with the regions, states and capitals. (compete with a classmate and beat their time)
The States and Capitals Game - How quickly can you locate all the state Capitals in a region
Regions of the United States - These are the regions that will be on the test.
United States Postal Abbreviations - Use postal code. Each should only be two letters
Steal the State Gameboard - You MUST make a copy in order to write on the board.

3: Research and find your own website that you can use for studying either the states or the capitals, or both. Write down the website address and share it with the class.
4. Use Google Earth (on your iPad) to tour, mark, and record the absolute location of 20 United States Landmarks. If you have been to any of the landmarks make sure you use those. Follow this link to see a list of 150 landmarks. U.S. Landmarks
Your end product should be a complete chart with all the information you have learned. You should have 50 rows, one for each state, and label the columns for the state, capital, region, postal abbreviation, absolute location, landmarks (may have more than 1 per state). Use the file to help order the states.
