CROSS COUNTRY (GRADE 2-7)
Our cross country program helps students develop endurance, pacing, and a love for running. Through guided practices, they learn proper technique, goal setting, and how to challenge themselves while supporting their teammates. The focus is on building confidence, enjoying the outdoors, and developing a lifelong appreciation for fitness.
VOLLEYBALL (GRADE 5-7)
Our elementary volleyball program introduces students to the fundamentals of the game while building a strong foundation for future play. Participants focus on developing essential movement skills, improving ball handling, and learning the basics of court awareness.
Through engaging drills and team activities, students begin to understand game flow, strategies, and the importance of working together. The program emphasizes skill refinement, confidence building, and a positive approach to competition—preparing young athletes to enjoy the game and grow as players.
BASKETBALL (GRADE 5-7)
Our basketball program introduces young athletes to the core skills and concepts of the game. Students practice dribbling, passing, and shooting while developing coordination and agility.
Beyond individual skills, the program helps players understand team play—how to move on the court, create space, and work together effectively. Through fun, active sessions, students gain confidence, build game awareness, and begin exploring basic strategies that set the stage for future success in the sport.
BADMINTON (GRADE 6 & 7)
Our badminton program introduces students to the fast-paced, skillful world of the sport. Participants focus on hand-eye coordination, racket control, and footwork while learning proper grip, serving, and rallying techniques. Through fun, interactive activities, students develop quick reflexes, spatial awareness, and a growing understanding of game flow and strategies—all in a supportive, team-centered environment.
TRACK AND FIELD (GRADE 3-7)
The track and field program introduces students to a variety of events, from running and jumping to throwing. Athletes build fundamental movement skills, improve coordination, and explore different disciplines to discover their strengths. Emphasis is placed on skill development, sportsmanship, and setting personal bests in a supportive, team-focused environment.
Construction of Teams
Cross Country and Track and Field
Athletes of all abilities who demonstrate the 4As will have an opportunity to participate in at least one meet leading up to the CISVA Cross Country Championships and CISVA Track and Field Championships. This provides opportunities and practice for as many athletes as possible and those selected for these events may not always be those with the most skill and ability.
For the CISVA Cross Country Championships or CISVA Track and Field Championships, in which there is very limited entry, coaches will select the athletes that have demonstrated a strong commitment to the program and demonstrate the highest level of ability to represent the school.
Volleyball and Basketball
For the Gr. 5 level, we will be splitting teams based upon skill level and will play all players with respect to CISVA rules of participation. We want our students at this grade level to have the chance to get comfortable with the game and focus on working together, developing camaraderie, and gaining as many game experiences as possible. The majority of practice time will be spent on basic fundamental skill work and learning about game rules and strategies. Our primary focus is to develop a great skill base for our players. Each athlete will be challenged to be better than they were last practice and develop an attitude of competing against themselves to improve each day. Athletes will be exposed to all positions to gain experience.
From Gr. 6 to Gr. 7 level, we will continue building on the basic skills. However, there is an expectation of moving to a competitive level. When it comes to registering our teams with the CISVA Elementary Athletic Commission, there is a choice to sign up with the competitive or spirit league. We will be splitting the teams based on a number of attributes such as attitude and skill level. Team selection will be reviewed each year and will be based on their current level of ability and maturity. Previous team selection will not pre-determine a player’s current team.
