Here is an overview of the 12 SEL tools that support children in learning to name, express and regulate their emotions, as well as improve social skills such as being compassionate, caring, and responsible. Toolbox is an inquiry based approach that promotes belief in every child and helps children develop the ability to make good choices, a sense of agency, and ability to problem solve on their own. These social-emotional skills are critical to developing self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. As a district, teachers, students, and families will share a common language and we hope that by practicing the tools in the classroom and partnering with parents, children in elementary school will develop the habits to increase success in school and life.
In this presentation, there are strategies, activities, and resources you can use throughout the summer to cultivate your child’s social development and have fun at the same time. You will also revisit the 12 tools in our SUSD Toolbox Project – an inquiry-based approach that helps children develop the ability to make good choices, regulate emotions, and problem-solve on their own. By practicing the tools in the classroom and partnering with parents, our students will develop the habits to increase success in school and life.
