Report
A “English as a Global Language” seminar was conducted to raise awareness about the importance of the English language. Dr. P.J. Jacob, Associate Professor at Mar Ivanios College (Autonomous), Nalanchira, served as the resource person. The seminar was organized for the English department students of this college. Fr. Sheen Palakuzhy, a faculty member, welcomed the chief guest, the chair, and the participants. Rev. Dr. Vibin Bernad, the Principal-in-Charge, presided over the function. He commended the English department for hosting such a program and expressed heartfelt thanks to the resource person. Dr. Jijo Johnson, Head of the Chemistry Department, also felicitated the event. Dr. P.J. Jacob then delivered a detailed and interactive presentation on the topic. The participants actively engaged with the resource person during the discussion session. Seminar on “English as a Global Language”

National Webinar on “Deconstructing Nature and Culture - Binary in a Post-Covidien Era”
A national webinar was held on July 13, 2020, with Mr. Anto A. Paul discussing the impact of the pandemic on the nature-culture binary.
Quiz on “Pandemic Literature 2020-2021”
From July 17-30, 2020, the department conducted an online quiz on pandemic literature, involving 36 participants.
International Webinar on “INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES TO LEARN ENGLISH”
The English Association of the Year inaugurated on 11th February 2022. An international webinar on “Innovative Strategies to Learn English” was conducted in relation to the English Association inauguration. Rev. Dr. Mathew Charthakuzhiyil, writer, poet, polyglot and Oxford University alumni was the resource person.
Book Giving Day Celebration
This event was held on February 11, 2022, to encourage the students to donate books to the Department Library.
The Department of English displayed remarkable adaptability during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring continued learning and engagement through online platforms.
Online Classes
All classes were conducted via Google Classroom and Google Meet, with five sessions per class, maintaining educational continuity during the pandemic.
Online Internal Exams
Internal exams were conducted online, with students submitting answer sheets via Google Classroom, ensuring timely assessments.
Online PTA Meeting
The department held a virtual Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting to discuss student progress and departmental activities.
Department Tour
A four-day tour to Wayanad was organized for final-year students from March 25-28, 2022, visiting sites like Edakal Caves, Karupuzha Dam, and Kuruva Island.

National Comic Book Day Celebration
“SITCOM 2K22” was celebrated on September 30, 2022, with comic drama performances by students.
Book Lover’s Day Celebration
On November 07, 2022, students presented book reviews, promoting the habit of reading.
Freshers’ Day (2022-2025 Batch)
A lively Freshers’ Day event was held to welcome the new batch, fostering camaraderie among students.
Departmental Library Inauguration
The Departmental Library was inaugurated on December 22, 2022, by His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius.
Edgar Allan Poe’s Day Celebration
On January 17, 2023, students recited Poe’s poems in a special tribute to the poet.

The English Association was inaugurated on January 19, 2023, followed by a seminar by Dr. Aloysius Albert on “Language of Literature: An Outlook.”
International Book Giving Day Celebration
This event was held on February 14, 2023, encouraging the spirit of book giving.
World Theatre Day Celebration
On March 15, 2023, third-year students performed a drama to mark World Theatre Day.

The first Alumni Gathering (ESSA) was held on March 18, 2023, along with the release of the department magazine “Literary Musings.”
Farewell (2020 Admission Batch)
A farewell event was held to recognize the outgoing batch, awarding Juliya J S and Arunima G. as “Best Outgoing Student” and “Best Performer,” respectively.

Juliya J S secured 3rd rank in BA English Language and Literature from the University of Kerala.
Adarsh A.S. was the runner-up in the American Flag Football Senior Men National Championship.

The farewell ceremony for the 2021 batch celebrated the academic and personal milestones of the outgoing students, with Sona being honored as the “Best Outgoing Student” and Daniel receiving the “Best Outstanding Student” award for their exceptional contributions and achievements.
Alumni Gathering
Department level alumni gathering was held on 13th April 2024. Students of all the previous batches are present for the gathering. The second issue of the newsletter was also released on that particular day.
The department marked World Environment Day with an interdepartmental quiz focusing on environmental awareness. Eight teams participated, answering questions on ecology and sustainability. Abhin and Abhiram from the Chemistry Department won first prize, and the event inspired students to think critically about environmental issues.
This event honoured the literary legacy of George Orwell. Students presented insights on Animal Farm, followed by a screening of its film adaptation. Discussions reflected on Orwell’s political vision and relevance in contemporary society.
Under the theme “Youth and Environmental Sustainability,” students designed creative digital collages. The competition encouraged eco-consciousness through art, with Ashish Udayan (II B.Com) taking first place.
An exciting welcome event for first-year students featuring cultural performances, interactive games, and the Mr. & Ms. Fresher contest. The day fostered unity and a friendly atmosphere among seniors and newcomers.
Students composed original poems on the theme “Symphony of Rain.” The best works were published in the department newsletter, showcasing literary creativity.
Ms. Salini AS, an alumna of the department, delivered a talk on “Navigating Cultural Identity and Globalization in Modern Comparative Literature,” sparking engaging discussions with students.
The department unveiled a “Multilingual Wall” displaying translations in various languages. The event highlighted linguistic diversity and the importance of translation in global communication.
The association was formally inaugurated with an address by Dr. Sanchitha J, followed by a seminar on “The Pleasure of Reading” and the release of the department’s annual action plan.
Mrs. Angel Mary from Mar Ivanios College conducted an informative session on research techniques, citation styles, and ethical research practices, equipping students for academic projects.
Students from multiple departments participated in a lively spelling competition to enhance vocabulary and language proficiency.
Presentations from faculty and students explored Keats’ Romantic poetry, with discussions on themes, style, and cultural significance.
In collaboration with IQAC, the department hosted an online quiz to deepen students’ understanding of the Indian Constitution.
Students from I and III years toured the Central Library, exploring cataloguing systems, archives, and research facilities to encourage independent study.
The department launched its official website to provide academic resources and updates. Certificates for the add-on course were awarded to successful participants.
A five-day trip to Kodaikanal, Vagamon, and Wonderla allowed students to combine cultural exploration with leisure activities, strengthening peer bonds.
Books were donated to the college and department libraries by students and faculty, promoting the culture of reading and sharing knowledge.
Students staged Girish Karnad’s Nagamandala, with strong performances from Gokul Krishna and Lakshmi (III BA). The production showcased the department’s theatrical talent.
Prof. Dr. Balakrishnan Parasuraman from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan delivered a keynote session on effective research writing and funding strategies, attended by students from various institutions.
A heartfelt send-off for the 2022–25 batch, featuring speeches, music, and expressions of gratitude from faculty and peers.
