We had a wonderfully creative week! Here you will see photographs from many art classes (except 3rd and 5th grade, who missed their art day while on a field trip), STEAMS, and enrichment. Enjoy!

Kindergarten artists had some time to explore tempera paint after learning how to take care of their paintbrushes by giving them plenty of water and making sure they were dancing on their tiptoes and not squishing their bristles. We also practiced rinsing between each color to make sure our colors were clean and vibrant. Yes, those are dog dishes holding the rinse water...they work so well because they never tip over!

First Graders did a beautiful job on their oil pastel dots! Each one was colorful and unique. The children experimented with blending textures and layering colors, and tried out some BRAND NEW neon oil pastels! Combined with their painted dots, these made a wonderful display!

Second graders continued to explore how artists use lines to create images and designs. In one center, they used ultra fine Sharpies and gel pens to make "never-ending" line designs, while a second challenge was to use yarn and scrap paper to create a line and shape collage.

Fourth grade artists explored how artists use texture in their artwork. There are two types of texture: real texture, which you can feel, and implied texture, which is created by using different kinds of marks or brushstrokes. Last week they created some collages using real textures and objects, such as cloth, yarn, paper, foil, foam, plastic, and metal.

Sixth-graders continued to work on their music/concert posters. They have some great ideas and designs!

The seventh grade ancient history class is working in small groups to create posters about different hominids. They examined diagrams of skulls and artifacts to make some hypotheses about the capabilities and habits of these early human species.

The seventh grade art room stools are coming along nicely!

The eighth-graders are working hard on their murals. Tucker's paint-splatter shirt was like that already, I swear!

K-2 STEAMS groups exploring painting and using art materials in the Sharing Room.

Check out this adorable owl!

Another amazing invention!

Happy artists love creating!

In our Middle School STEAMS Art and Poetry workshop, we listened to different nature sounds and instrumental music and used these to inspire small paintings and then poems. A relaxing way to spend a Friday afternoon!

Nature Art Enrichment made wands from sticks!

DIY Fashion artists are creating T-shirts with homemade stencils and fabric spray paint, and learning some new sewing skills.

Have an inspiring week!
