Session Overview
This meeting offers families a clear and supportive introduction to three key parts of their child’s English learner journey: ELD, ELPAC, and reclassification. The goal is to make these terms and processes feel approachable, not overwhelming, and to highlight that every child develops at their own pace.
The session begins with an overview of the school or district’s ELD programs, so families understand how multilingual learners are supported in building English skills. Next, families review a sample ELPAC score report to practice reading and interpreting the information before looking at their own child’s results. Time is built in for reflection, discussion, and ideas for how to support learning at home — in any language.
Finally, families learn about reclassification through an interactive activity that shows the real-life impact of this important milestone. Along the way, there are opportunities to reflect, ask questions, and share experiences.
The overall purpose of this meeting is not only to share information, but to create a space where families feel supported, respected, and included. Together, we are building understanding and partnership so that families leave with clearer information, greater confidence in how to support their child, and a reminder that their voices matter in this journey.
