Commander au restaurant .

Here some vocabulary you need to know to order food and drinks at a restaurant

Petit-déjeuner

Déjeuner

Diner

Commander

Prendre

Une boisson chaude, une boisson froide

Boire

une eau minérale

des frites

un verre de lait, u lait

Do you know those words?

The verbs Prendre et Boire .

Both verbs are irregular.

Prendre means to have when saying what one is having to drink or eat. But it cannot be used to express possession. For possession, Avoir must be used.

Look at how Boire is conjugated , page 132 in your textbook.

With those two verbs, you are learning the partitive articles in French to express some or any.

Je bois du thé chaud.

Je prend de l'eau minérale.

Elle boit du jus d'orange.

Je mange des frites.

Translate those sentences, as we will learn how to form the partitive using de followed by the definite article ( le, la, les ) depending of the gender marker of the food items you are taking about.

Watch this video. This is a good lesson on those two verbs.

In the next few days, we will use them to write sentences, and use the partitive articles.
