Course Description: French 1 is an introductory course which supports the development of the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. To promote the development of their communicative ability, vocabulary and basic grammar will be integrated. Additionally, students will have an opportunity to enhance their understanding and appreciation of French culture . Le monde francophone puts the spotlight on the people, places, and traditions of the countries of the French-speaking world.

Course Outline: Lessons will cover content (vocabulary), communication ( listening, speaking, reading and writing skills), culture ( understanding of cultural differences and the ability to communicate respectfully), language structure (ability to communicate from single word responses to the forming of complete sentences, and settings (appropriate language dependent on setting). The target language will be taught based on the newly adopted state world language standards which can be found at World Languages Standards for California Public Schools
