Students in the AAS program are required to take a total of 70 credits. This ensures that all students have a core foundation of knowledge, and the ability to specialize/minor in a particular area of filmmaking (cinematography, screenwriting, editing, or sound). The program is a mix of classroom learning, practical exercises, and hands-on film production. Students apply the skills and techniques they learn every semester by writing, directing, shooting, producing, and editing five (5) short films. Each film project is progressively more challenging in demand and scope. This educational method is an effective and powerful way of teaching the art and craft of moviemaking.
At the end of the student’s second semester, prior to starting their third semester, they are required to choose a minor in Digital Filmmaking. The options available are: writing, editing, audio, or cinematography.
More information about the minors, as well as course descriptions, can be found in the 2024 Course Catalog.
Please use the form below to declare your minor. Failure to do so will result in you being unable to register for upcoming semesters. However, if you decide that you want to change your minor, you will have until the 8th week of classes, during the semester that you are enrolled in 101B Producing and Directing to do so. For example, if you are taking 101B in the 2023-24 Summer semester, you will have until June 24th to change your minor.
If you have any questions, or need assistance with declaring a minor, please make sure to schedule a meeting with the Registrar. There is a link in the form to set up a time that will work for you.
